the remaster has enough difference especially toward the end to be considered a new experience

There's a fine line between remaster with QOL Updates and a Remake that fundamentally and mechanically changes things.

Unfortunately, WE DO NOT TALK ABOUT HALF-LIFE: SOURCE. (Or at least the current Steam iteration of it.)

Black Mesa, I fear, sometimes misses the point of some of Half-Life 1's set piece and design decisions.

(I mostly take issues with how they balance combat and resource allocation. ESPECIALLY cutting the M203s down to three.)

I feel like if she's in the mood for more HalfLife after this, then going to HL2 would be the best bet.

there's not really any need to play Black Mesa until you've let the dust settle for a while and are a craving a return

There are two expansions on PC: Blue Shift and Opposing Force (both good additions), then Decay (on PS2, but there's a PC Port in progress and part of Sven Co-Op).

Blue Shift and Opposing Force were both good yeah, but certainly not required for a holistic experience or complete understanding for moving into HL2

This is the definitive savescum game that taught people those habits decades ago. It's fine.

Now that I think about it, rather than jumping into HL2, it would be cool to see her try out other games from the HL era. Deus Ex would be a cool one to watch
