Security clearance isn't always necessary to GET the job, but there's usually a probationary period until clearance is acquired, and you get shitcanned if you don't get cleared

Many companies will sponsor your clearance. you get hired, then you do shit work for 3-6+ months while the process goes on. it's a huge pit of overhead.
