Going open hand for a random chi is a good way to end up with no yaku in your hand. You can't win with no yaku, your hand isn't eligible then

That's a decent hand, actually. You can try and wait for 5-6-7 character suit (the ones on the left), you already have 7-8-9 dots, you have 3-4-5 bamboo. And can wait on 6 or 9 bamboo.

You need 4 combinations of three and a pair of tiles. 5-6-7 is a sequence of three, for example. You also need a yaku in hand, that one is a tad more difficult.

You could try going for no terminals, no honors. It can be open hand then. You need to make sure your hand doesn't have 1s, 9s or any of the wind or dragon tiles. You still need 4x3 and a pair to win
