No. Meals do increase Motivation, which lets you tutor them more, but that’s for Skill levels. Which are still important for class promotions, but not stat level-ups.

2-stat levels are still good for units if they get the right stats. For most physical units, a level that only gives them Strength and Speed is still a pretty great level-up.
